Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The color is bright, clear, pale lemon yellow. The nose is fragrant with pear, white peach, Golden Delicious Apples, guava, and toast. The medium to full body has a creamy texture and bright acidity to support ripe fruit flavors of Golden Delicious apples, sweet lemon, pear, and brioche. The lingering finish echoes the flavors, ending with bright citrus and a hint of exotic spice. This Chardonnay is to enjoy now and for many years ahead.
Vineyard Notes
Our 2019 Lo Selvestre Chardonnay (roughly translates as "The Wild One" from Spanish), was inspired by the wild yeast used for this fermentation. The 2019 harvest in Alexander Valley was one of the best for our white grapes. A cool spring with late bud break and two unexpected inches of rain in May, coupled with average temperatures allowed us to harvest perfect fruit in September. This wine was harvested from a lower yielding part of the block (Westside) and underwent a very light pressing for a more elegant and age-worthy style. Our Chardonnay was barrel fermented, with some minimal lees stirring to create richness and complexity. Only a partial secondary malolactic fermentation was allowed to preserve the crisp acidity freshness. The intent was to make a rich yet understated Chardonnay, reflecting the clonal selection (70% Robert Young + 30% Clone 4), soils (clay loam), and region (Alexander Valley).
