2016 Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2016 vintage on the farm started warm early and ended beautifully, especially for our later ripening red grapes. The cool fog of the morning frequently cleared to sunny skies early afternoon, accompanied by temperatures soaring into the high 90°s. As the sun set temperatures cooled off dramatically, dropping up to 40°F. These are the ideal conditions for creating greater depth of flavor in our Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot varietals. The Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested exclusively from our 43-year Old Vine block, planted in 1973 on St. George rootstock by Rodney Strong. With yields as low as 3 tons to the acre, the concentration of fruit flavors led to a wine of extreme richness and opulence.
