Tasting Notes
A dark purple color in the glass. The nose is suggestive of warm boysenberry cobbler, dark chocolate, and black plum, with pleasant undertones of cedar. This well-knit and generous wine is followed by flavors of ripe red berries, baking spices, and chocolate covered cherries. The finish is long, smooth, and decadent, beautifully echoing ripe fruit flavors that linger in the mouth.
Vineyard Notes
Our Leoncito (Spanish for little lion) is a proprietary blend that gives a nod to the Alexander Valley’s Hispanic heritage and the Lyon family’s love of the region. Comprised of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a touch of Petit Verdot this wine offers a delicious mélange of savory and sweet flavors in a luxurious package. The 2016 vintage started early and warm but ended up beautifully for Eco Terreno, especially for our later ripening red grapes. Cool fog in the morning cleared to sunny skies early afternoon as temperatures soared up into the high 90°s F, cooling off quickly following sunset. Temperature swings of up to 40°F, which is preferable for Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, allowed for greater depth of flavor.
